HB 2041 Insurance:

By now I am sure that you have all heard about House Bill 2041 and the fact the they are trying to push this bill through very quickly. The Towing Association is not in favor of this bill. This bill is being named the Towing Standard. This bill does not address towing as a business or industry. It is only dealing with a vehicle that has been towed from disablement or an accident scene and the charges for such as well as who it can be released to. In the beginning the Association was told that this bill was to address wreck chasing. We wanted to be a part of fixing that problem, however, as the bill flourished, it was not addressing that matter. At this time we have asked all towers to get ahold of their representatives and explain to them that this is not a good piece of legislation for towers and that we would like to see the bill stopped. We will keep you abreast of what we learn as we get more. We understand that the bill is to be voted on today 3/9/10.

As of 3/9/10 we have been told that the vote for this bill was put off for possibly a week. Please take this time to contact your representatives and help us stop this bill completely.

3/15/10- Here is your update, we met with Rep Deluca today and a group of people such as other reps, AG's Office, Trade guild, and the Pa Tow Assoc. We explained that we are apposed to the bill and they were not in favor of our response. The bill is still to go to the floor for a vote. Please contact your representatives and have them vote no to this being a towing standard. That is the only way we are going to be able to stop this from becoming a law.
